JEE means Joint Entrance Exam. Through this exam, admission is given in different engineering institutes of the country including IIT (Indian Institute of Technology), NIT (National Institute of Technology). But the institutes where there is maximum competition for admission are IITs and NITs. Both are institutions of national importance i.e. All India level. Mode of Admission in IITs & NITs

For admission in NITs one has to qualify JEE Main exam. This exam is conducted by NTA i.e. National Testing Agency. Each NIT releases its cut-off after the exam. If you qualify that cut-off then you will be eligible for admission. On the other hand, if you want to take admission in IITs, then you have to qualify both JEE Main and Advanced exam.

Education Quality of IITs & NITs

Despite being a higher educational institution in the country, there is a difference in the education quality of IITs and NITs. For example, the infrastructure, courses and other facilities in IITs are upgraded. That is, based on modern methods. They also keep changing with time. Whereas the infrastructure and curriculum of NITs lags slightly behind compared to IITs. However, this trend has shown a change in the recent past. NITs are also making changes in their curriculum according to the changing times.

Courses Offer By IITs & NITs

By the way, IITs and NITs of the country offer many courses. Many courses from undergraduate level to post-graduate and PhD can be done from here. But there are some courses at the post-graduate level in IITs which are not there in NITs. For example, courses like Post-Graduate Diploma in Information Technology (PGDIT) and Post-Graduate Diploma in Maritime Operation (PGDMOM) are not offered in NITs.

Number of Seats Available in IITs & NITs

IIT is considered to be the top engineering institute of the country. A total of 23 IITs are present in the country at present. There are a total of 16 thousand 234 seats for undergraduate courses in these 23 IITs. On the other hand, if we talk about NITs, then there are a total of 31 NITs in the country. A total of 23 thousand 997 seats are available in NIT for undergraduate courses.

Infrastructure of IITs and NITs

There is a lot of discussion about their campus among those who dream of going to IIT and NIT. There is also a difference between the two places in terms of infrastructure. If we talk about NIT, then the biggest campus is of NIT Trichy. This campus is built on 800 acres. On the other hand, if we talk about the infrastructure of IIT, then the biggest campus is of IIT Kharagpur. It is spread over 2100 acres. Let us tell here that there are four IITs whose campus is bigger than NIT Trichy. If you want to take the feel of campus along with studies, then IITs can be a better option for you.

Placement in IITs & NITs

Generally, the average placement of students studying in IITs is better than the students of NITs. But there are some NITs who beat IITs every year and take the lead in the race for the best package.

So here it is, the difference between IIT and NIT. But one thing you must keep in mind is that for admission in both the institutes, you have to clear the JEE exam.
