Dada Saheb Phalke Award – About
Dadasaheb Phalke is called the father of Indian cinema. He was born on 30 April 1870. He made his first film called Raja Harishchandra in 1913. Due to his contribution, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award was instituted in his honor by the Government of India in 1969. The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is given annually by the Directorate of Film Festivals. And this award is given for outstanding contribution to Indian cinema and film industry. Under this, the winning person is presented with a Swarna Kamal and a cash prize of Rs 10 lakh. Under this award, Devika Rani was first honored with this honor in 1969.
